Gatcombe - ISLE OF WIGHT

What's around Gatcombe?

Gatcombe is a village and civil parish that is geographically right in the centre of the Isle of Wight, making it equidistant to everything that the island has to offer. Only 4 kilometres away from the county town of Newport, which is one of the most highly populated areas of the island, Gatcombe may be quite quiet but it is picturesque and close by to thriving towns, so there is always plenty to do.

St. Olave’s Church is a historical and stunning church in the village which was bestowed in 1292, and features stained glass windows by famous designer William Morris, which date from the mid-19th century. The church was originally built as a chapel to Gatcombe House for the Estur family.

Gatcombe House is a striking manor house in Gatcombe, and the original building is even noted in the Domesday Book! The present building is nestled between enchanting forestry and is made of stone. Having been erected in 1750, it makes a fascinating visit if in the area of Gatcombe, or if you have rented a self-catering holiday cottage nearby and want to explore your surroundings.
