Located in the north western part of the Isle of Wight, the village of Ningwood is calm, pretty and peaceful, and is home to numerous cottages dotted by the sea. With gorgeous thatched roofs, private gardens and fixed BBQs, renting a self-catering cottage in Ningwood is a great way to experience a quieter part of the Isle of Wight in a stunning setting, and the village is close by to larger towns and villages so you can easily encouter a mixture of the tranquil and the busy and bustling.

There is a popular pub located in Ningwood, the Horse and Groom Pub, which is loved by the locals and tourists alike, and should definitely be visited if on a trip to this village. The pub has a welcome play area for children which is much appreciated by their parents as they relax over a cool drink on a hot day.

Ningwood is also home to enchanting woods and is perfect for those who love nature trails and those who like to get lost amongst teeming wildlife.

Places to visit near Ningwood

The port of Yarmouth is only three miles from Ningwood, and so can be visited on a daily basis or just for a lovely day trip out from the village. There is a lot to do in this historic town which is one of the oldest settlements on the Isle of Wight, from browsing through the many shops and boutiques that line the streets to visiting the small but interesting Yarmouth Castle. With lots of artefacts on display as well as excellent views across the Solent of the ships and boats mooring by, it makes a lovely visit if you want to try something different in Yarmouth.

One of the most popular places to visit in this town is the mid-19th century Fort Victoria, which is home to the Underwater Archaeology Centre. At this centre is a marine aquarium, a model railway and a planetarium which are all fabulous for kids and big kids alike, and is both fun and educational!

Ningwood is a quiet village yet it is close by to countless areas of the island that are worth visiting. To blend a relaxing cottage holiday with spontaneous visits to these exciting places is a great way to experience much of what the Isle of Wight has to offer, and so Ningwood is a great choice for a self-catering break in this island gem.
