Places to visit near Nunwell - ISLE OF WIGHT

Nunwell

Nunwell is located on the eastern side of the Isle of Wight, close by to the ancient civil parish of Brading. This little area’s main draw is the impressive Nunwell House (PO36 0JQ, Tel:01983 407240), a historic English country dwelling which dates back to the 12th century and has been home to the Oglander family since 1522. Today, visitors can get guided tours of this incredible estate, with its rich history and simply incredible grounds.

If staying in Nunwell or in the surrounding areas, then a visit to Nunwell House is a must, and it makes a very enjoyable afternoon out. With stunning views over the Brading Harbour, and a beautiful garden that includes soaring trees, sprawling lawns and a pretty lily pond, there is as much here for nature lovers as there is for lovers of Jacobean architecture and history.

Brading Cricket Club is just up the road on the A3055 so do not be surprised to see the boys in white during the summer creating a traditional Englsih scene.

There is a 7 mile long trail called the 'Nunwell Trail' that runs from Ryde to Sandown and includes walking over a ridge of chalk downland. Look out for the pre-historic barrow, a burial mound on along this ridge at the Devil's Punchbowl.

Renting a cottage in Nunwell or close to Brading is a brilliant idea if you want to soak up the atmosphere of this quaint area, and it is wonderful if you want to experience a different part of the Isle of Wight, and one which is perhaps a little less visited than the bigger seaside resorts and towns of the island.
