Roud is a hamlet in the south of the Isle of Wight that has a rich history dating back to the 11th century, when it was known as Rode. This gorgeous little settlement south west of Godshill is perfect if you wish to rent a self-catering holiday cottage on the island, as the surroundings are peaceful and you will get plenty of chances to rest and relax. Ventnor beach with beach huts and shopsOnly about five miles away lies the stunning seaside resort of Ventnor, which sees some of the highest temperatures on the Isle of Wight due to its southern location. A must-see in this area is the Ventnor Botanic Gardens which house an array of exotic and subtropical plants, brilliant for if you are interested in lush vegetation. There is also the Garden Café at the centre, so you can make a whole day trip out of a visit to the Botanic Gardens!

There is a pleasant esplanade and enough shops for interesting browsing in this Victorian seaside resort.


Roud is quiet and quaint but perfect for cottage holidays on the Isle of Wight, and lovely if you want to experience a lesser known part of the island.
