The hamlet of Sandford lies near to the village of Godshill and the seaside resort of Shanklin towards the south eastern part of the Isle of Wight. With a Methodist Chapel, some beautiful farmland and entrancing copses and woods nearby, it makes a lovely little visit from the bigger communities that are close to Sandford, and is great for those wishing to rent a self-catering cottage in a peaceful and rural area on the island.

The village of Godshill is less than five minutes up the road from Sandford, making it easily accessible on a daily basis for those with or without cars. It is home to some charming thatched cottages, winding lanes and friendly people, and should definitely be visited for the model village which is located on the High Street of Godshill. Featuring Shanklin Old Village and Godshill at a scale of 1:10, the Model Village opened in 1952 and has been replicated in this small size with extreme detail, making it truly fascinating to wander through and marvel at.

If you get peckish, there is a refreshment cabin, the Nammet Hut, where visitors can purchase things to eat in the beautiful setting, or you can even bring your own picnic to eat on the sprawling lawns of the Model Village! Either way, a visit here makes a wonderful day out for the whole family.

Old Shanklin high streetThe seaside resort of Shanklin is about a ten minute drive from Sandford, and is home to a lovely sandy beach, lots of shops and eateries, and the incredible Shanklin Chine. Lovers of nature will be in their element at this old wooded ravine, with cascading waterfalls, woodlands and wildlife dotted around, as well as a Heritage Centre and exhibitions on smuggling and shipwrecks. Shanklin Chine is a definite must-see if staying in Sandford and visiting Shanklin for the day.
