Shalcombe - ISLE OF WIGHT

What's around Shalcombe?

Shalcombe is a small village in the western area of the Isle of Wight close by to the towns of Freshwater and Yarmouth which are under 5 miles drive away. It is not very far from the sea and so it makes a wonderful choice of location for a holiday cottage, if you are visiting the island for a self-catering break. There are not very many amenities in Shalcombe itself but renting a cottage that comes fully equipped with everything you will need on your holiday means that you won’t need a restaurant at every corner! These cottages come with hot tubs, fixed BBQs and lovely private gardens, meaning you may not even want to leave your lodge too often!

Places to visit near Shalcombe

The town of Yarmouth is under five miles drive from Shalcombe, and should definitely be visited as there is a lot to see and do here. This gorgeous port has a wide variety of shops, pubs and cafes, as well as the Yarmouth Castle. This small but imposing castle features many artefacts and has little exhibitions and displays, making it a historical and educational trip. There are also incredible views over the Solent from the castle, making the perfect photo opportunity!

Also in Yarmouth is the 19th century Fort Victoria, which houses the Underwater Archaeology Centre. This centre features a marine aquarium, planetarium and model railway, making it extra fun if you have kids in tow, and afterwards, watching the ships go sailing by the harbour from the fort is a brilliant way to really appreciate this stunning port.
